Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to create history by presenting her seventh consecutive Union Budget on July 22, 2024, which will prove to be a milestone in Indian parliamentary history. If her appointment is confirmed, she will surpass former Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s record of presenting six consecutive budgets.
The announcement comes amid the beginning of the session of the 18th Lok Sabha on June 24, where newly elected members will take oath and elect the Speaker. President Draupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on June 27, outlining the government’s agenda for the next five years.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to introduce his Council of Ministers after the President’s address, followed by a debate in both Houses about the government’s proposed initiatives. The session, crucial for setting the legislative agenda, will end on July 3.
As India continues its economic progress, Sitharaman’s Budget presentation will be closely watched for policies and allocations aimed at accelerating the country’s growth amid global economic dynamism.
